Karen Moorhouse set out to develop a broad understanding of procurement and, through diligence and passion, has achieved end-to-end procurement knowledge with practical experience and a mature, well-defined set of soft skills. The many testimonials paint a picture of a capable colleague who shares ideas and encourages innovative thinking, and who truly engages with stakeholders, demonstrating the benefits of the function – and delivering value for money. As a student at the Metropolitan Police, she managed the consultancy category while completing her CIPS qualifications, later returning as a category analyst and making savings of £2.6m over a range of products and services, and training 30,000 police officers on using the e-procurement system. She then took a post in research, studying external factors affecting category strategies to build her understanding, moving back to procurement at the City of London. Here too she worked with police services, procuring on forensics and becoming liaison lead for the City Police.
The judges commended her on her “mature and inclusive approach, raising the profile of procurement. Karen is an excellent role model for rising stars”.
