Tom has held various procurement and non-procurement roles in a number of leading global manufacturing companies and has worked in Germany, Japan and India, as well as the UK. Since 2014, Tom has been group director of purchasing & supply chain at JCB and is a member of the Group Executive Committee. JCB is a world-renowned British manufacturer of construction equipment, with manufacturing plants in UK, Russia, India, China, USA and Brazil. Prior to joining JCB, Tom was CPO at Japan’s NSG Group from 2007 to 2014. A leading global manufacturer of glass technologies NSG operates in the fields of automotive, technical (touch screen displays, hybrid vehicle batteries and optoelectronics) and architectural (buildings glass and solar panels). In this role Tom split his time between the UK and Tokyo. Between 2002 and 2007, based in Hannover Germany, Tom was senior vice president of procurement at Continental AG, one of the world’s largest automotive and industrial systems manufacturers. Before his move to procurement SVP, Tom led Conti’s UK manufacturing operations for almost five years as UK managing director of ContiTech UK Ltd, where he also had responsibilities for developing the worldwide white goods product segment. Tom joined Continental AG in 1992 as European quality systems manager. During his five years in Germany, Tom was a member of the manufacturing innovation team active in JV projects in Russia, South America and India. Tom began his career in 1984 as a process engineer with Uniroyal Ltd near Edinburgh, advancing to plant manufacturing manager in 1989. He graduated from Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh with a B.Sc. in Chemistry in 1984 and achieved an MBA in 1992. Tom is a former member of the Procurement Leaders and the CIPS awards panels, both recognising excellence in the profession.
